Crocus ‘Yalta’

Crocus tommasinianus ‘Yalta’ really shows what it means to be bi-coloured. Not only the flowers sport both purple and silvery white, but so do the stems of this short plant which provides among the largest crocus flowers. The outer silvery blue petals are somewhat smaller than the inner purple ones, but the exact colour arrangement varies from bloom to bloom. Sometimes there will be a rigid alternating colour swap, exchanging silver for purple on a petal for petal basis, while at other times the two tones will wash into one another. Meanwhile the bright orange stamens throw a bit of contrast into the mix. These giant Crocus tommasinianus hybrids’ blooms open in early spring.
